So we have made a quick (we wish) transit to Cairns from Alice with only a slight hickup. Two hours out of Alice I went to unlock the van & the lock had broken so we could not get into van. We found out it is very difficult to break into a van. Stopped at Tenant Creek but locksmith was on holidays. End result was that we kept going & stayed in a donga at Barkly Homestead. Got to Mt Isa & locksmith opened in 5 minutes. Just need to get lock replaced in Cairns.
The beer & entertainment at Barkly Homestead was very pleasant after a long day.
Back to QLD from another direction.
Camped at Corella Dam next night, its half way between Mt Isa & Cloncurry. Great spot, plenty of water in dam & lots of vans in residence.
Next day a very long drive and a night at the showground at Charters Towers & then on to Lucinda for a night. The Lucinda jetty is 5.76km long & is used to transport sugar from the bulk terminal to the awaiting ship.
Haven’t had fresh caught prawns for a while so we really enjoyed these.
So we have travelled 8,505km since we left Tassie in May. Been through 4 states. Most expensive diesel was $2.15/litre at Ayres Rock.
