After leaving the West Coast we stayed a couple of days at Wynyard & then onto Penguin on the North Coast.
Table Cape Lighthouse is only a few kilometres out of Wynyard. It was built in 1888 & is open for tours. The steelwork for the tower & stairs came from England.
We were there mid afternoon & a fog rolled in to put a cloth on the table.

Next morning from the same place when the weather was better. The Pacific Eden was visiting Burnie & you can just see it.
Boat Harbour is a pretty little village.
Rocky Cape Lighthouse was built in 1968 & surrounded by the Rocky Cape National Park & the clearest water we have seen.
Round Hill Point Lighthouse is just east of Burnie. It was built in 1923.
Dinner & a beer with some freeloaders.
East of Wynyard is Burnie then Penguin & then Ulverstone. Burnie is the main port on the North Coast & is where the rail line terminates. Main export is woodchips. We stayed at Penguin which is a cute little village 20km east of Burnie. Whilst it is called Penguin currently there are no Penguins rookeries around.
Sunrise. It’s rising at 7am so it is much easier to get up to catch it. The days are getting shorter.
Some good looking churches at Penguin. The Uniting Church goes into the finals for best looking.
Dinner at the Grand Hotel at Penguin was one of the better meals we have had. This is the day Billy left us so we were struggling. Beautiful murials on the wall.

Lunch & tastings at Hellyers Road Distillery. The liquor was the girls favourite.
There is a railway line that runs along the seaside from Stanley to Ulverstone. The only part that is used for freight is from Burnie to Ulverstone. If only there was the money & foresight it would make the most wonderful steam train tourist attraction.
The Three Sisters, unfortunatly the one on the right is hiding behind the hill.
Gunns Plains Caves are inland from Penguin & were discovered in 1906. Great tour & impressive shawls with old mate being very informative.
Preston Falls did not have a lot of water as it has been very dry.
Levon Canyon is a spectacular sight from above.
On the way home we stopped in at Kaydale Lodge for a light lunch & a look at the gardens that have been an obsession for 50 years for the owners. Even at the end of Summer there is colour in the garden.
