The Carpentaria is a lightship. It did the same job as a lighthouse except it was anchored, usually around shoal areas where it was impossible to build a lighthouse. Carpentaria was built in Sydney in 1917 & spent most of its life in the Gulf of Carpentaria. It was retired in 1985.2018 12 Sep_9951

Cowan Gun emplacements were built in 1937 to cover the main channel through Moreton Bay. It entailed two 6″ guns & controlled mine fields in the channel. The emplacements were abandoned in 1960. Since then erosion has undermined & moved the concrete structures.

Cape Moreton Lighthouse was the first lighthouse built in QLD. It was built in 1857 by the NSW Govt (prior to QLD becoming a separate colony). 2018 15 Sep_0067
